Balancer Puller, Crankshaft Remover, Crank Tool or Damper Puller
A universal tool for removing harmonic balancers from the end of an engines crankshaft.
How to use a harmonic balancer/damper puller:
A bolt connects the threaded adapter to the shaft, and a thrust bearing slidably mounted upon the shaft is axially forced into engagement with the balancer by a shaft mounted nut. Threads into the holes that held the main pulley to the balancer and push screw forces the balancer from the press fit on the nose of the crankshaft.
Harmonic balancer as seen in Basic Engine Building:
Turning the nut pulls the tool, along with the harmonic damper, away from the the engine block and off woodruff key. Using different adapters with various sizes and thread allows it to work on a variety of crankshafts.
