Scrapes carbon and oil build up from the inside of the ring groove to allow new rings to make a better seal against the piston.
How to use a Piston Ring Groove Cleaner:
We do not recommend these tools for doing a quality engine rebuild. They are difficult to use and your far more likely to damage the piston walls even if you clean the grooves.
Carbon blasting as seen in Basic Engine Building:
If your pistons are reusable, we recommend having your machine shop bead blast the carbon deposits off. This will clean all the carbon and oil with out any damage to the grooves or walls at all.
