This tool can be used to lend a hand in extracting lifters that may be gummed up by dirty oil.

If any lifters are very stuck, they should not be forced out. Leave them in a stuck position and pull them out from the bottom after the camshaft has been removed. Or your machine shop can take care of them for you.
